Getting around

Barbados Transport buses run frequently and can be caught from any bus stop.  The stops are clearly marked ‘To City’ (the Barbados capital) and ‘Out of City’ (travel away from the capital) so that you can know which direction you are heading.

There two other types of business from which you can choose.  ZR van’s (pronounced Zed-Rs) are privately owned mini buses that ply specific routes.  You may find these  operate with greater frequency than the public transport.  These buses are easily recognised, as their registration plates carry the letter ‘ZR’.  The other buses owned privately, are called Mini-buses, and are easily recognisably  – painted yellow with a blue stripe.  The buses carry a registration plate with letter ‘B’.

Fares on all of the buses are fixed at BDS$2.00 (US$1) per trip, regardless of the length of your trip.

Numerous car rental companies are available on the island, offering a wide range of vehicle choices. As an added courtesy, many of them will deliver your car to the airport or hotel, as well as arrange for you to obtain the mandated local drivers permit. To rent a car one of the following companies can be contacted:

  • Executive Car Rentals Inc (hyperlinks)
  • Stoutes Car Rental
  • Courtesy Rent-A-Car
  • Coconut Car Rentals
  • Drive-A-Matic Car Rentals

Taxis are a great way to get around Barbados.  Most local taxi companies offer a choice of luxury cars, small vans or large coaches for groups.

Irrespective of your choice, you will find the various options for transport very convenient.
